- Electricity tariff increases go to parliament. Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan has written to National Assembly speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula to table a total average upward adjustment for the electricity retail tariff of 18.65% for 2023/24 and 12.74% for 2024/25. He requested that the annual average price increase and the schedule of standard prices for Eskom tariffs for municipalities be tabled in parliament on or before 15 March 2024 to allow for the implementation with effect from 1 July 2024. - China installed more solar panels in 2023 than the US—or any other nation for that matter— has ever built. The country added 216.9 gigawatts of solar last year, blowing away its previous record of 87.4 gigawatts from 2022. That dwarfs the 175.2 gigawatts in the US, the world’s second-biggest solar market.
